THE TEN COMMANDMENTS OF DISC GOLF
compiled by Dave Stembel.
Originally published in the Philadelphia Area Frisbee Club Newsletter, Vol 8, No 5, December 1984, and Disc Golfer Magazine, 1985; with apologies to the original "The Ten Commandments of Frisbee" published in Flying Disc Magazine, 1978.
I The most powerful force in the sport of disc golf is that of a disc straining to strike the exact center of a tree trunk. This is called "tree suck" and the golfer is reminded of the George of the Jungle call: "watch out for that tree!"
II The higher the quality of a tee shot the greater the probability of a faulty putt. Good tee, poor putt.
III One must never precede any tee shot with the thought "go for the ace." The ace is a consequence of pure luck and can never be premeditated. Besides, the disc golfer is likely to face a monster putt back to the basket.
IV Anytime a golfer misses a close putt and flings a second disc towards the pole hole it will go in. The second putt ALWAYS goes in.
V The best rounds are always in practice. "I shot a 12 under on this course once . . . practicing."
VI Anytime a golfer assumes the putt is good the disc will hop out of the basket or go through the chains. "But is was on the right side . . . "
VII The most powerful hex words in the sport are "nice shot." While the disc is in the air if someone says "nice shot" the disc will veer off course due to a sudden wind or a previously unseen tree branch.
VIII It is almost impossible to explain disc golf to someone who does not play disc. "Right; golf with a Frisbee. Let me guess, you have to get it in a basket or something."
IX Never take your eyes off the disc. "I leaned over to get my disc bag as it was going towards these bushes . . . . how long have we been looking?"
X The single most difficult hole to play is the last. "Just one more round."
